DOES
LIL' KIM FEEL THE SUPPORT FROM HER HOMETOWN - BROOKLYN?
Kimberly "Lil' Kim" Jones is a true
native of Brooklyn, NY. She was raised in one of Brooklyn's
historical neighborhoods, Bedford Stuyvesant, which is rich
in culture, heritage and TALENT.
This "hood" gave birth to our KING of Hip-Hop
"Notorius BIG" - he came first and the QUEEN came
after!
Brooklynites can truly see that this young
lady loves her hometown and she reps it every chance she
gets in her lyrics. Recently she released her hit single
"Lighers Up" which quickly became the Brooklyn
anthem. However, in the midst of the success of the single
and excitement of her highly anticpated album, Lil Kim had
to face her share of unfortunate trials and tribulations.
As of last year, 2005, Lil' Kim is serving a 366-day jail
sentence, however, we hear encouraging rumors that Kim may
be out much sooner. Whether these rumors are true or not,
this BK soldier continues to keep her head up and anxiously
awaits the day to come home and return to her throne.
BBK's, Busy Sista, recently caught up with
Kim's publicist, Tracy Nguyen, who can be seen as part of
the cast of the BET realtity series, Lil' Kim Countdown
to Lockdown, for a brief Q&A to discuss whether Kim
is feeling the support from her hometown during her ordeal
and in general.
Busy Sista: Does Kim feel
she received support from the African American community
of Brooklyn while she was on trial and now that she's away,
is she receiving encouraging letters from hometown fans
or other celebs who originate from ths city?
Tracy: Kim has the best fans
in the world. There were many that came to support her at
the trial every single day. She is currently receiving an
endless number of letters from fans all over the world,
including those who are from Brooklyn. Kim is extremely
grateful and reads every single piece of mail that comes
in. They are very encouraging and supportive and she definitely
would not be able to get through this period of serving
her time if it wasn't for the outpour
of love from her fans.
BS: What was the inspiration
behind writing, "Lighters Up"? Is there anything
she would have liked to highlight in the video that she
didn't get a chance to?
T: The inspiration of the
song "Lighters Up" was of course her hometown,
Brooklyn. There are many things that she wishes would have
been done differently but due to the time constraints, we
are happy that we were even able to put together something
for the song and for her fans.
BS: On a whole, how important
was it for her to get support from her city when she first
started her career and how significant is it now?
T: It's always been extremely
important from the very beginning to now. To have support
of her own community is the most meaningful for Kim.
BS: Any future plans of coming
to Brooklyn to do a concert or appearance?
T: Yes, absolutely. She will
always be a Brooklyn girl at heart and definitely has plans
to continue to give back to her hometown community in the
future.
BS: Is there anything she
would like to say to her millions of fans and the BlackBrooklyn.net
visitors?
T: Kim would like to let
her fans know how much she loves them for all their support.
She would be nothing without them. Please continue to write
her because she reads every single letter. She is grateful
from the very bottom of her heart and cant say thank you
enough.
Thank you, Tracy, for taking time out of your
hectic schedule to reach out to BlackBrooklyn. Let Kim know
that we will "Keep Our Lighters Up" for her and
BBK hopes to catch up with her later this year for an indepth
interview.
God Bless.
